" Learn ASP Overnight" Class Description
People who want to make dynamic web sites with a focus on displaying and updating databases, forms, browser independent design, and maximizing the use of built in objects to save programming time. Also, focus on making pages that are both high performance and behave well on a high load site.

Audience/Prior Experience:
Students are not required to have extensive HTML, SQL or Programming knowledge. People who do have that knowledge will learn faster and have more detailed questions and will NOT be bored.  We also provide people with many troubleshooting tips based on over 2 years of building LearnASP.com and consulting with thousands of coders on the listserves at www.asplists.com. We also show the best ways to use programming syntax properly (subs, functions, array, dictionaries) to reduce the time they spend coding and the physical size of their code.

Topics:  Starting at the beginning students will be shown how to create an Active Server Page and use the fundamental objects to present a page that adapts to many complex conditions and presents databases and allows users to work with them.

• Use the ADO component to view ODBC databases residing on your network. Sample scripts will show the data in table, listbox and other formats
• Learn the differences between server scripting and client scripting and which commands are possible in each environment.
• Use a IF and SELECT statement to see how a script can process a HTML form and vary form results and accept parameters
• Use the Browser Capabilities component to serve up different HTML depending on the user's browser: support the oldest and newest browsers by varying the page based on the user's browser.
• Master the use of the response object including redirection, buffering and the <%= %> operator.
• See how a SQL statement can be used to allow users to add records with ADO behind the curtain.
• See how a SQL statement can be used to allow users to delete records with ADO behind the curtain.
• See how a SQL statement can be used to allow users to edit records with ADO behind the curtain
• Get a quick explanation of why Intranets, Extranets, Web Sites and Web Appliances will provide many more possibilities to app developers than traditional database programming and client/server programming offered.
• See how you can use the server.createobject, use Methods and Properties of some objects and learn the differences. A list of free objects and 3rd party objects will be presented.
• The Content Linker and Include Files can simplify organizing a site and arranging content. We will show you how with some extensive examples.
