Training By Charles M. Carroll
Hi, I am Charles M. Carroll the teacher at AspTraining.com.
I have been teaching computer classes
since 1985 (born on 5/13/64 for those sentimental enough to send gifts)
and the desire and capacity to teach no doubt comes from my ancestors who
all taught in one room school houses on the frontier -- there are many
teachers in my relations.
My computer career since
1983 has included
managing business, contract programming,
documentation writing and technical support for tiny and huge companies and
everything in between (to mention a few: documentation for the MitemView
software library, designing one of the first online airfare-lookup programs
for a travel consolidator, technical support and programming for the
International Monetary Fund) and teaching classes attended by enterpreneurs,
small to medium business and huge government agencies. This diverse
experience base allows me to prepare class lessons that are relevant and
practical for many different kind of programmers. But teaching is
my first love, and if my work ever didn't involve
teaching, I did it for fun in my spare time.. The thrill of
watching a light bulb arise over a student's head is my
greatest thrill and following up and hearing of a
students on job success is a major joy in my life.
In early 1996 I started
building LearnASP.com (which became the #1 ASP site worldwide) and in 1997 I
started AspLists.com / AspFriends.com to provide email help for topics neglected on the
half-dozen ASP listservers, and grew it to 600+ focused ASP help lists --
its competitors all have a fraction of the lists and a fraction of the
experts. In the process I forged relationships with every player and
vendor in the ASP community and interacted with programmers worldwide via
email solving their issues or uniting them with people who could.
In 1997 I also created the
http://www.AspAlliance.com, the entire
idea and invited the first columnists and ran it alone until 1999. In 1999 I
transferred ownership of
http://www.AspAlliance.com to Brad Kingsley and Steve Smith as
they had more time to continue the idea. An in 2000 I shared my
Ad Alliance idea with
Steve Smith for how to implement. In early 2002 I launched
http://www.AspElite.com.
Before
Microsoft unveiled ASP.net Beta1 to the public, Mark Anders and Scott
Guthrie shared the "pre-betas" with me. Since then I decided
not to continue my relationship with the ASP.net team in December 2002 but I
still worship and study ASP.net with a passion and thoroughness few can
match. At AspTraining.com
every aspect of the class is designed by Charles to guarantee the students
experience is ideal:
- manuals are
double-sided color printouts (competing class manuals are black and white)
- Lessons are
updated and expanded FREE online so students can study
before and after class
- Several bookstore books are included
for in-depth after-class
reading beyond the class manual
- the restaurants for lunch are always the
best
- the pre-class and
post-class support from AspFriends.com has no counterpart at our
competitors
We are always
finding ways to show students we care about the class and their learning
and to involve them with people in the ASPCommunity that can help them. |
