The Name Change: ActiveserverPages.com TO LearnASP.com! What is up with that?

The name ActiveServerPages.com is a great name
BUT

You can't imagine how much I wince when teaching a class and watching them have to type the URL www.activeserverpages.com 2-4 times to get it right. That doesn't happen with learnasp.com! Lets see: www.activeservepages.com, www.activeserverrpages.com, www.activeserverpage.com, etc.

BEFORE AFTER*

* this new design is a first draft. The colors and design will get more refined and polished in the next couple of weeks. Notice how hard it is to fits so many letters of the old domain name in either logo.

Also we use the above logos on some custom jackets and shirts I had made. We give students bags with embroidered labels. Heck we even have a bumper sticker. Fitting that huge group of letters on clothes with tiny embrodiery thread leads to a blurry hard-to-read logo. LearnASP.com looks clean in many medias because it is short.

My marketing gurus Al Reiss and Jack Trout  (www.charlescarroll.com has links to their books) are quite wise and one of their profound pieces of research is that Long Names do not survive, i.e.

They also believe that blue tends to lead to more memorable logos than others. The geniuses behind Heinz ketchup researched much on product color and concepts we are also using to tweak our designs. Our use of pastels for example versus stronger colors is based on a desire to appeal to women versus men. We want a softer look than most web sites.

We don't want our shorter name to happen accidentally. Thus we shortened the name before someone else did...

We also do not intend to be everything to everybody. Starbucks only serves coffee and can charge much more than restaurants for coffee. Evian water is expensive while restaurant water is free. We always want our readers to:
LEARN ASP
We think the word learn is a great word to own for 50 years like Xerox = Photocopy and Kleenex=Tissue.

ActiveServerPages.com will always work when typed into a web browser. But we want to be the site to Learn ASP and are hoping consulting, job, components and other sites grow and prosper. We will link to hosts, components, and help grow the people who want to prosper with the other words. We think the market for people learning ASP is bigger than all other aspects of the market and are willing to concede component sales, hosting, consulting, jobs, etc. to people who want to lead in that field.
