The ONE book I thin you should read!

This site mentionsa  lot of books you may consider reading. I don't know about you but I don't read every book recommended to me, although I do read a lot of them. For me I have developed some rule for deciding whether a given person's book recommendation has merit that is not perfect but at least it is better than no guideline at all.
  • first I determine from their comments on the book how strong their knowledge is of the books topic and the genre or body of knowlege it belongs to
  • if it passes that litmus test, ask them if among the books of that type or author which book should a newbie start with?
  • Then I read 1 book they recommend and if it fails to blow me away I don't bother with any other books they recommend.
With that in mind, I offer my 1st book recommendation with an  extreme concern that if you fail to like the book, then dozens of other great books I like will not be read by you either, at least not purely on the strength of my recommendation. In fact I know if you don't like this first book, then my other book recommendations are likely to not motivate you to read them.

I reuad across enough genre and book types I feel confident I can find a book you will like, but a-s tastes vary I will offer a book from each genre with some notes as to the type of reader that will like it.

Now For the Book

Genre: Suspense

Do not expect a horror novel. This is not Steven King's usual approach. It is a human drama of good vs. evil at the premature end of the world (set in modern times, not the far future). It is about first and foremost some real people struggling in real tragedies.
CAVEATS: This recommendation is not for people who want a happy go lucky book, and if dark horror is your purview so you figure Steven King as the author means your blood lust will be sated, not with this book it won't.
In fact if you want me to recommend a horror book to you its Children of the Night by Dan Simmons rather than this.

Genre: Horror

This is a great horror book. Excellent characters and settings. Much better than all the other tales in this genre and avoids a lot of genre cliches.
The writing and mood are superb.

Genre: Management/Quality Control

Wow this book can change your whole way of thinking about business, efficiency and math and deadlines and how to achieve product quality.
But even more unusual is the presentation of some complex ideas ina friendly format more like a soap opera than a dry business text.
CAVEATSThis book challenges and successfully overturns many assumptions about work efficiency, that you may not want to hear, because you may be managing similar problems the opposite yet traditionally accepted way.

Genre: Emotional Drama

This is a woman's story with a backrop of biblical history, and I enjoyed the writing immensely.
CAVEATSIf you avoid chick flick movies, this novel is not for you.
