An alternative name for DCOM invented at the Microsoft Marketing Department primarily used for libraries with some kind of visible User Interface that can be placed on a web-page in Internet Explorer. Netscape cannot natively ever place ActiveX libraries on a web-page though some third-parties have designed add-ins that permit that.
Many DCOM libraries have no visible interface (i.e. they are merely programs, they don't have forms, buttons, UI controls or such) and they are typically called ActiveX DLLs or ActiveX Servers.
