Technologies that compete with ASP. A Brief, and very highly biased survey

ASP is the technology I choose to invest the next 10 years of my career after examining several technologies; so asking me about the competitors is like asking Jeff Hawkins or a PalmPilot employee what they think odf Windows CE. You may get an honest answer certainly, but a very biased one. I will TRY to stick to the facts.

ASP competitors are:

  1. Cold Fusion
  2. Netscape LiveWire
  3. PHP
  4. Java
  5. Java Server Pages (JSP)
  6. Perl
  7. CGI

Most of the above technologies run on Unix and NT. ASP runs on NT for free but costs $$$$ on almost every other platform.

There are other minor competitors but these are the ones that are most likely to come up in a meeting with bosses about webserver decisons.
